Millie Cubby House

The Millie is the classic cottage cubby – picket fence across the front, a mail slot built into the door, perspex windows with side panels that open – and it's the model we'd pick for a single child aged three to eight who wants a house of their own rather than a climbing frame. It's ground-level and compact enough for a normal suburban yard.

Size and who it suits

Assembled it's about 1.47 m wide, 1.90 m deep and 1.85 m tall, with a 125 cm door. That's enough for a preschooler and a friend plus a small table; it's a snug fit for two older kids. Suits ages 3 and up. Sits on any flat, well-drained base; a full floor is included.

What arrives and what's involved

Two cartons (43 kg and 44 kg) delivered kerbside – a second adult to carry is a good idea. Pre-fabricated panels and printed manual; 2–3 hours for two adults. It arrives with a temporary water-based stain and needs two coats of primer/sealer and two coats of exterior paint for durability and warranty; paint the panels flat before assembly.
